In defence of politics ...

I was reading the Sydney Morning Herald and came across this article where Andrew West reflects on changes in politics in more recent decades.

That is, they brought into the state's law-making body a rich array of insight, hardship, experience and, yes, occasionally privilege.

We have lost this representative character in our politics but we still have no better system to reflect the popular will.
